Wade Randolph Hampton aka W, aka WishFM, amongst various other stealth monikers, has always preferred exploring the outer perimeters of dance music and has worked diligently to define the indigenous Northern Californian jazz/funk D&B phenom, Drum and Space. Wade¹s Dj and live repertoire is somehow, both futuristic and timeless, but most often described as boldly unique. One thing is for sure... this is not just house music.
He has spent
17 years traveling the globe in his pursuit of absolute bliss,
generally arriving just in time for the next big thing. And, his
timing is
deafening. Chicago in '88. Los Angeles in '91. San Francisco in
'92. At
it¹s early 90¹s peak, his legendary annual Los Angeles
showcase, Circa, set the pace for the entire American rave scene.
Wade has been relentless in his mission to spread the electronic gospel, producing and performing at literally hundreds of shows across the US and Canada. While he prefers the rush of the live environment, Mr. Hampton has split his time with the studio to produce five critically acclaimed DJ mix CDs [WishFM 96.1, WishFM 97.1, WishFM 98.1, Jet Set, GROOVE Soundtrack] and two very original artist [W ŒRedheadedstepchild] and remix albums [WŒStepheadedredchild] currently on the shelves.
On his labels,
Domestic Recordings and La Belle Epoque Musique, Wade has produced
and released albums from himself, along with legends Mark Farina,
Symbiosis and Westside Chemical... supporting and investing heavily
in American talent. In 1997, he created the soundtrack on the celebrated
Tony Kaye German advertising campaign for Mercedes Benz revolutionary
A Class automobiles. In 1999, his efforts were rewarded with a BAMMY
nomination by the California Music Awards in the category of ŒOutstanding
Electronic Artist¹. In 2000, Wade played himself, as WishFM
in Sony Pictures GROOVE, casting his close friend, John Digweed,
as the marquis, Dj superstar in the
film. As music supervisor for the film, he produced the soundtrack
on
Kinetic/Reprise/WEA, already selling 200,000 copies, worldwide in
over 24 different countries. GROOVE was just nominated for Best
Film Under
$500,000 at IFC¹s Independent Spirit Awards. Most recently,
Mr. Hampton completed his contribution to the soundtrack album for
Darren Arnofsky¹s, Oscar nominated, REQUIEM FOR A DREAM slated
for release early this summer, on Thrive/Sire/WEA.
His signature
events, including his annual Sundance Film Festival event,
FatChance and his performances at Miami¹s infamous Winter Music
Conference, continue to set his work apart from the rest. Whether
for 200 people at San Francisco¹s jazz institution, The Top,
or for 30,000 at one of his arena residencies[Cyberfest, Ultra Beach
Festival, Texas Zen Festival, Monster Massive, Together As One,
ACA World Music Festival], WishFM can move any crowd.
