DJ
ICEY
Considered to
be a pioneer in the American breaks scene, having produced and released
over 80 12-inch vinyl singles on his independent Zone and Tree imprints,
remixing artists such as Paul Van Dyk, Groove Armada and Deee-lite,
DJ'ing nonstop playing clubs and one-offs week in, week out, DJ
Icey is on a mission to bring his energetic, pumping breakbeat rhythms
to a dancefloor near you, with the ultimate goal of always making
the clubbers move their feet.
"When I'm
DJ'ing, I'm focused on the dancefloor, dancing is a primal release
and a beautiful thing, ultimately what the scene is about."
With that said, Icey's latest release, "Essential Elements
- DJ Icey Presents the Breaks Element" takes aim square upon
the dancefloor massive.
Drawing upon
a wealth of diverse breakbeat stylings, from the warped electro
sounds of Jackal and Hyde's "20,000 Freaks" to the Plump
DJ's mesmerizing nu-skool mix of Orbital's "Funny Break,"
the break-step sounds of Second Protocol's "Brand New Style,"
the old-skool rave influences of Paz Pooba's "Hold Me Tight"
to Icey's own Ragga-influenced "Bust Off the Bass," the
mix is diverse yet untitled in its coherence.
"There
are so many good breaks tunes around, I wanted to do a mix that
incorporates the different styles that I play when DJ'ing, all having
a common head-nodding, ass-shaking, dancefloor packing groove to
them." "The Breaks Element" is a true melting pot
of music that when put together sounds fresh and vibrant.
With several
top selling releases under his belt including the full length "Generate"
and last year's widely acclaimed "Essential Mix," DJ Icey
was a logical candidate to christen the new "Essential Elements"
series. "To work with Pete Tong and the Essential staff is
great, they really are a global name synonymous with great dance
music."
And the beat
goes on.
